As above, so below. I was having an amazing hike with Angelos, trekking to the top of Kalathi mountain. The air was crisp, and the view of the Mediterranean was unfolding beneath us like a blueprint of the world.
I remember thinking how small everything looked from up there. But the mountain had other plans. One minute I was admiring the horizon, the next, I heard a sound—a distinct, wet snap. It was the sound of my knee giving up the ghost.
Now, I look back and realize the ascent was the easy part. The real climb started when I couldn't walk anymore.
